Our Activities
The Bridging Generations project addresses the challenges brought by generational differences in a rapidly changing world. By connecting young people (aged 18–24) and older adults (65+), we aim to foster understanding, empathy, and mutual learning through emotional intelligence.
The goal of the project is to build a bridge between generations, promote inclusion, break down prejudices (such as ageism and youngism), and strengthen social cohesion and intergenerational solidarity. Through skills like active listening, emotional literacy, and open communication, we create a space where both generations can be heard and understood.

Intergenerational Bonds Training System
This work package lays the foundation for educational efforts by addressing the root causes of age-based discrimination. Through extensive surveys (309 responses) and focus groups (50+ experts), the project identified 12 essential training areas tailored to young and older adults. Six of these topics are focused on helping youth understand ageism, and the other six equip seniors to recognize and overcome youngism.
Key training topics include:
-
Respect, empathy, and patience
-
Emotional intelligence for intergenerational understanding
-
Recognition and management of stereotypes
-
Mental health impacts of ageism/youngism
-
Discrimination in social, work and economic settings
-
Collaborative teamwork across generations
The training system is designed to be used in various educational and community settings, and is co-created with input from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.

Intergenerational Tools for Emotional Intelligence
Building on WP2, this package develops 24 hands-on tools to support emotional intelligence and non-formal learning. These tools focus on empathy building, communication, bias awareness, and emotional regulation.
Each tool is designed for intergenerational use, meaning both age groups engage in shared activities and reflections.
Tools include:
-
Story-sharing exercises
-
Emotion-mapping activities
-
Role-playing for stereotype reversal
-
Group reflection journals
-
Co-creation workshops for mutual goals
All tools will be piloted in local training sessions to ensure usability and impact.
